Cultivate fastidious and non-fastidious organisms, including Clostridium sporogenes using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Columbia Agar MLT (Dehydrated). Columbia agar is a general purpose nutritious medium first developed by Ellner et al. at Columbia University1. Ellner combined peptones from both animal and vegetable proteins which enrich the growth of both fastidious and nonfastidious organisms. Columbia Agar MLT is formulated in conformance with the harmonized United States Pharmacopeia (USP) / European Pharmacopeia (EP) guidelines to test for the presence of Clostridium spp2,3.

- Conforms to the harmonized United States Pharmacopeia (USP)/European Pharmacopeia (EP) guidelines for microbial limits testing for Clostridium spp.
- Can be used as a base agar to isolate various organisms by the addition of specific supplements.
This medium can be used for qualitative procedures as a general purpose medium. It contains peptones which supply growth factors such as nitrogen, carbon, vitamins, and trace elements essential for bacterial growth. Corn starch serves as an energy source and yeast extract supplies B-complex vitamins.
