Description
The easy and economical way to dry and store all types of polyacrylamide and agarose gels. The unique pore configuration of BioDesign GelWrap allows the water in the gel to evaporate directly through the BioDesign GelWrap membrane. BioDesign GelWrap bonds to both the gel surface and to itself. Sandwich your gel between two wet pieces of BioDesign GelWrap on a BioDesign GelFrame and air dry or use a gentle source of heat. The result is a dried gel is sealed between two layers of tough clear flexible membrane.Instructions for use
1.Cut two pieces of BioDesign GelWrap the same size as your BioDesign GelFrame. 2. Wet the BioDesign GelWrap in a small amount of water. BioDesign GelWrap wets instantly and will become slightly opaque. Never soak for more than one minute, as excessive wetting will cause poor results. BioDesign GelWrap cannot be stored wet. 3.Place one piece of the wet BioDesign GelWrap on the solid BioDesign GelFrame bottom section and push out the air bubbles underneath it using the side of your hand. Pour a small amount of water (10mL to 20mL) on top and then lay your gel down, leaving as few air bubbles as possible trapped beneath your gel. Then pour another small volume of water on top of your gel. Place the second wet piece of BioDesign GelWrap down. Use the side of your hand to push out the bulk of the trapped air bubbles. 4.Place the open picture frame part of the BioDesign GelFrame on top and use the clamps, included with the BioDesign GelFrame, to secure all four sides. 5.Shake the assembled BioDesign GelFrame upside down, to remove any excess water. 6.Leave the frame horizontal while drying. With lower percentage polyacrylamide gels, you can air dry overnight. For polyacrylamide gels that are over 10%, 1mm thick, gradient, or larger than 100mm x 100mm, use gentle heat from a lamp using a 60W light bulb and positioned 3 inches away from the gel surface. 7.When your gel is dry, it and the BioDesign GelWrap will be completely clear and flat. Disassemble the BioDesign GelFrame. The BioDesign GelWrap located at the edges, which was between the two pieces of the frame, will still be damp and must be cut away with a scissors. With thicker gels, it is sometimes necessary to press the dried gel overnight to prevent curling. 8.That's it! BioDesign GelWrap has formed a flat tough transparent envelope around your dried gel and is stable for years.
- BioDesign GelWrap dries gel completely flat and wrinkle free
- The color of protein stains (brilliant blue, silver, etc.), glycoproteins, nucleic acids, and colored enzymatic products will remain stable for years
- Flexible for safe and permanent storage Dries and preserves all types of polyacrylamide and agarose gels including slab, gradient, 2D, immunodiffusion, immunoelectrophoretic and enzyme activity gels.
