2-Methoxyphenol acts as an expectorant. It is used as an anti-oxidant as well as an anti-skinning agent for paints. It serves as a precursor to flavorants such as eugenol and vanillin. In addition to this, it is also used as an indicator in chemical reactions that produce oxygen.

Notes
Air and light sensitive. Store in a cool place. Keep the container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents and strong bases.
